Four pit bulls attacked a car on Monday in search of a kitten which was wedged up high in the engine compartment and luckily, out of reach of the ferocious pit bulls reach. The car bumper was however left with considerable damage.
The four pit bull terriers had chased the kitten into the Dodge minivan engine compartment. The pit bulls and minivan both belonged to the same owner.
The vehicle's owner changed the flat, mauled tire after the incident and proceeded to drive 25 miles from Banning to Palm Springs before discovering the 7-week-old kitten. The little kitten has wedged itself into a hollow part of the front bumper, according to the Desert Sun of Palm Springs.
An animal control officer freed the kitten following a 40-minute process that involved removing the bumper.
"The kitten had successfully survived the pit bull attack and the 25 mile drive to Palm Springs from Banning," a press release from the Palm Spring Police Department read.
The young feline's name was selected for the following reason, according to the police release: "'Fender,' for area where she was rescued from and 'Lynx' based on the Lynx-like appearance of the tufts on her ear tips."
"Fender Lynx", as she has been dubbed by her rescuers, is doing well under the care of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. She will be put up for adoption on Saturday. To contact the shelter, call 760-416-5718.
