Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are engaged to be married, People magazine reports. The couple have been quietly dating for 6 months.
Chad Kroege, the 37-year-old frontman of the band Nickelback, and pop-punk princess Lavigne, 27, got together in February to co-write a song for Lavigne’s next album.
"A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," a Lavigne friend is quoted as telling People. Kroeger reportedly popped the question on Aug. 8, presenting his bride-to-be with a 14-carat diamond ring.
Kroeger's band offered a toast to the couple with a banner reading "Congrats Chad and Avril" on the Nickelback website. For her part, Lavigne re-tweeted congratulations from fans on her official Twitter account.
Meanwhile, despite claims by Star magazine, a representative for Marilyn Manson has confirm that he is not dating Avril Lavigne.
This will be the second marriage for Lavigne, who separated from Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 in 2009. Kroeger has never wed, but is currently embroiled in divorce proceedings with his former common-law partner Marianna Goriuk. The couple lived together for about seven years in Kroeger's massive Abbotsford mansion, living a life of luxury that included trips in a private jet to their Mexican vacation home and helicopter flights to party in Vancouver.
