"Avengers: Age of Ultron," Joss Whedon's follow up to 2012's "Avengers" is easily one of this year's most important movies, playing a pivotal role in defining the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On May 1, we will see the earth's mightiest join forces once again to battle an enemy that is created by one of their own - Ultron, an A.I. robot developed by Tony Stark who breaks loose and plans to eradicate humanity from the face of the earth.
S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow has been teased by the film's director Joss Whedon as being one of the key players in the movie's narrative, but with the movie only having so much time to devote into a single character, it is likely that the film will concentrate on its main plot: Tony Stark's involvement with Ultron and the divide of the "Avengers."
But Scarlett Johansson birings news that her character's origins will be revealed in the upcoming movie, touching on Black Widow's dark past. The actress had this to say in an interview with W Magazine.
"People were surprised that I wanted to play a comic book heroine. But I loved Iron Man, and I met with Marvel to see what was possible. I had done my research, and the Black Widow character resonated with me," said Johansson.
"She is dark and has faced death so many times that she has a deep perspective on the value of life. In the sequel, you learn more about the sadness in her past."
As it stands, Black Widow has appeared in a number of films without any plans of having her own solo movie. But nonetheless, the actress still admires her character.
"Black Widow is a superhero, but she's also human. She's small, but she's strong. It's hard not to admire her. She packs a big punch. We all try to fight the forces of evil. Like Black Widow, you have to keep trying. The challenge is always there."
