Daniel Johns Talks About New Single 'Aerial Love;' [VIDEO] Former 'Silverchair' Frontman Revives His Music That ‘Is A Metaphor For Loneliness’

| By

After almost 10 years, Daniel Johns returns into the limelight and he's got a not-so-different take on love this time.

Former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns is known to write his songs of melancholia and love for the Australian rock band. Now he resurfaces as a solo artist, with a music video for single "Aerial Love" that is nowhere near sunshine and butterflies, and that warm feeling.

Appearing recently on the "Today" show, the 35-year-old singer/songwriter Daniel Johns dons a black button-down shirt, with his signature eyeliner and shares the idea behind his new music video. The video of the song "Aerial Love" is Daniel John's first release as a single artist, and it is definitely a different tune from his Silverchair days.

"The video is me on my own personal journey through a desert, which I guess is a metaphor for loneliness and discovering a world of sexual beings and uninhibited love, which I thought was quite beautiful," Daniel Johns explains.

He continued, "I'm not much of a painter, I'm not even much of a writer, but I understand sound and I understand melody and I guess that's just my way of putting my kind of imprint on the world."

After Silverchair disbanded in 2011, Daniel Johns remained in Australia for the most part and divorced his wife of five years, singer and actress Natalia Imbruglia in 2008. Recently, he is rumored to be dating fashion designer Estelita Huijer.

This "Aerial Love" video is also far from his previous releases with Silverchair, as does the song. This new single feels like a fusion between a Keith Sweat song and an Usher's dance remix-far from the classic Daniel Johns that is lively and rustic, regardless of the sadness in the lyrics.

One similarity from previous Silverchair videos is Daniel Johns walking, as can be seen during the "Young Modern" album in 2007, for the song "Young Modern Station." The "Aerial Love" single of Daniel Johns is also for the more mature audiences, as there is nudity on the video and an uncensored version has yet to be released.

"Aerial Love" will be released in a four-track EP of solo artist Daniel Johns. Release date is set for March 13. "Aerial Love" debuted at an acceptable rank at number 50, according to the Australia Singles Chart.
