'X Men: Days Of Future Past' Initial Plans Included Replacing Hugh Jackman For Wolverine Role; 'Wolverine 3' Already Being Written

| By

Hugh Jackman, the actor playing the iconic character "Wolverine" has kept the role for the past seven "X Men" movie intstallments - little did anyone know, he was almost replaced in "X Men: Days of Future Past."

Matthew Vaughn, the director who was initially to helm "Days of Future Past," revealed with the news while promoting his latest film "Kingsman: The Secret Service."

"I had a whole different idea of how X-Men should go. I thought 'Days of Future Past' should be the next one and it'd be set in the 80s. So, when I wrote the treatment, I then wrote Kingsman and got confused about which film I should direct next," said Vaugh.

"I said to Fox, 'Let me do Kingsman now, get somebody else in and we'll do the '70s version, recast Wolverine, and then we do Days of Future Past with the new Wolverine and Hugh [Jackman], and make it the biggest spectacle we've ever seen."

The sequel to "X Men: First Class" eventually ended up in the hands of Bryan Singer, the first "X Men" movie's director.

"That was my idea but Fox, quite rightly so, I mean, you know, they've got a bottom line to look after and went 'no, we're doing it.' And Bryan [Singer], it's Bryan's franchise. I think he proved it's his by knocking it out of the park."

But it seems that Jackman will be keeping his claws for a bit more, starring in "X Men: Apocalypse," Bryan Singer's follow up to "Days of Future Past."

Meanwhile, the actor spoke about his character's latest solo movie "Wolverine 3," revealing that its already being written by him and "The Wolverine" scribe, James Mangold.

MTV asked about the upcoming "Wolverine 3" (not official title) in an interview while promoting his latest movie "Chappie."

"It does draw on some comic book stuff. There are some things, but in typical fashion sort of one main one with a few bits here and there and then opening it up. Jim [James Mangold] and I, we've been talking about it, he has a treatment."

In the interview, the news about "Spider Man" crossing over from Sony to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was brought up. Naturally, questions were asked about when Fox's "X Men" will meet the "Avengers."

"I'd like to think there's a possibility," said the actor but he also added that he "hopes that it doesn't happen out of necessity."

"X Men: Apocalpyse" arrives in theaters next year on May 27. "Wolverine" 3 drops on Mar. 3, 2017.
