One major character from the earlier seasons has been missing in the new season of FX spy drama series "The Americans."
Claudia (Margo Martindale), who served as the advisor of the American-disguised KGB couple Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell), is yet to be seen ever since "The Americans" season 3 premiere episode. She was replaced by Gabriel portrayed by Frank Langella.
Claudio was last seen telling the couple that The Center wants Paige (Holly Taylor) to become an agent for Russia. This is the main problem that the couples are facing now. While Philip and Elizabeth are already supervised by Gabriel, don't be surprised if Claudia resurface in the next "The Americans" season 3 episodes. In an interview with TV Line, executive producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields confirmed the deceptive Russian advisor is indeed coming back.
"We couldn't be more thrilled and grateful for Margo's return as Claudia in the third season," Weisberg and Fields told TVLine.
"It was an immense joy to have her in our first two seasons, so to work with her again is a wonderful stroke of good fortune. And all we had to do was ask nicely! And promise no one would punch her in the face again!"
But before Philip and Elizabeth deal with Claudia, they will have to face first the challenges that Gabriel has on the table.
"We're working on episode 9, and I'm just starting to see little chinks in the Gabriel [Frank Langella] character, who she loves and admires. He protects her. There's something that comes up where she basically pushes back with him a bit in protection of Phillip," Russell said in an interview with LA Times.
"And she's like, "This is what I'm asking you to do for Phillip." And he was like, "I didn't know you knew about that." And Elizabeth is like, "Yeah, he told me." There are these little moments were you see how they really are a team away from their cause. And I think that's a step, so who knows what's going to happen."
"The Americans" season 3 premiered on Jan. 28. It will return for its fourth episode titled "Dimebag" on Feb. 18.
