'Assassin's Creed' Movie Now Greenlit By 20th Century Fox, Enters Early Production; More Game Movies Announced

| By

Finally, "Assassin's Creed" from developer Ubisoft comes to the big screen by way of 20th Century Fox. It will star "X Men's" Michael Fassbender playing the lead role. Marion Cotillard of "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Inception" fame has been recently reported joining the cast.

"Assassin's Creed" was just recently greenlit and is currently in its early production stage, expected to film shortly after and has a Dec. 16, 2016 release date.

The project stood dormant for quite a while, as many thought that Fassbender wouldn't have any time for it due to his commitments appearing as Magneto in Bryan Singer's "X Men: Apocalypse," also releasing in 2016. But it seems that the actor can keep up with the pace as he's also been made a major producer in the video game-turned-movie, securing his spot in potential sequels.

"Assassin's Creed's" movie plot remain unconfirmed, rumors report that it will be a loose adaptation of the first video game installment. The movie is directed by Justin Kurzel of "Macbeth," a movie which also stars both Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender.

We can also expect a few titles from popular video games hitting the screens:

Following 2007's "Hitman" movie starring Timothy Olymphant is "Hitman: Agent 47," a reboot of the series that will star Rupert Friend playing the title role; a trailer has already been released. The movie arrives on Aug. 28 this year.

Blizzard's "Warcraft" is also getting a full-feature in March 2016. There haven't been many updates on the project lately, what is known is that it will be directed by Duncan Jones and will feature talents such as Toby Kebbell (Rock N' Rolla) and Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol). The movie has been given a Mar. 16, 2016 release date.
