Marvel has a lot going for itself lately - just in the past year, two blockbusters: "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" dominated the the big screen in the superhero movie category.
Now that "Spider Man" has crossed over from Sony with a Jul. 28, 2016 solo film planned for the webslinger, Marvel will do nothing but dominate Hollywood even further.
But DC isn't letting Marvel have all the fun, as they are bent on claiming some of Marvel's success by releasing titles such as "Batman V Superman," a much anticipated crossover movie, "Aquaman" and "Wonder Woman" solo films, and their response to the "Avengers," two installments of "Justice League."
The two massive brands have already revealed their lineup of releases that span the next five years - naturally, we will see a bit of competition at the box office.
Samuel L. Jackson who plays (former) S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe addressed the Marvel vs. DC rivalry while also discussing Marvel Studios' success in an interview with MTV News.
"The Marvel Universe is huge. There's thousands of characters that they can access and use and do stuff with. I'm not surprised by that. It's been that way since we started reading comic books. Most of us that understand the comic book world know you can crossbreed and do all kinds of stuff. ... I think marvel has figured out a way to make those movies accessible to the public that DC hasn't. I don't know what that is," said the actor.
He also touched on the upcoming "Batman V Superman" movie and the hype it has been building.
"I don't why you can't get Batman and Superman together and have people as juiced up to be a part of that."
In other related news, Jackson's multi picture contract with Marvel is nearing its end. This now could be reduced to only one as he has been confirmed to appear in "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016.
