'Captain Marvel' Will Be First Female-Led Marvel Movie; Angelina Jolie Eyed To Direct

| By

Director Joss Whedon recently made public that "Avengers: Age of Ultron" would be his last, confirming that he won't be leading the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" movies, leaving Marvel fans wondering wondering what movie will the visionary director helm next.

Speaking with Buzzfeed, Whedon was asked about potentially producing "Captain Marvel," the first female-led installment from the MCU.

"Um, I would never rule anything out, because I like working here. By the same token, the biggest thing for me is that I need to do something that I create myself. It's been way too long since I created a universe... Captain Marvel I don't know as well," said the director.

"There have been a few [versions] of her. I have the first issue of Ms. Marvel, back when she was that, and had the Farrah hair. My only issue with her is that she always felt sort of on top. She was very driven. A winner. I always like to dig into the soil of things to find my heroes, if I can," he added.

In other related "Captain Marvel" news, Angelina Jolie was reportedly approached by Marvel to direct the film.

OK! Magazine in their February issue claims that Marvel Studios were impressed with Jolie's work with last year's "Unbroken" that they offered her $20 million to helm the film with the source claiming that "Having a female director is a priority for them."

"Captain Marvel" as well as other Marvel films has recently been given new release dates following the arrival of "Spider Man" into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is now slated for a Nov. 2, 2018 release date.

Here's Marvel's official press release.

"Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" will hit theaters Nov. 3, 2017. The following year, Marvel's "Black Panther" will make its way to theaters on July 6, 2018, and Marvel's "Captain Marvel" on Nov. 2, 2018. Finally, Marvel's "Inhumans" will now debut in theaters July 12, 2019."
