A year after announcing the end of their exceptionally short-lived marriage, Kris Humphries and reality star Kim Kardashian remain embroiled in a divorce process that seems far from smooth.
The basketball player and Kim Kardashian tied the knot last May after what was then considered a fast track dating that lasted only six months. That was because noone knew what lay ahead – 72 days, that’s how long they were married for, a record even to Hollywood standards.
But if the marital life was quick, their divorce process has been far from it. The lawyers from both sides have been engaged in a authentic semantic warfare.
In a court hearing on Wednesday, Humphries lawyer, Marshall Waller, accused Kardashian’s team of delaying the discovery process, suggesting Kardashian’s lack of commitment with the fluidity of the process.
"I don't want to use the word uncooperative, but they are not making the process easier," Marshall Waller told the judge, according to E!, adding that he needs at least four months to get ready for trial.
Kardashian's lawyer rebutted the accusation. Not only have they been cooperative, said Laura Wasser, Kim Kardashian’s attorney, but they have spent at least $250,000 on the case so far – which they plan to pass on to Humphries.
At the heart of this war is a disagreement between the parts in the terms of their parting. Whereas Kim aimed at a divorce the traditional way, Humphries wants to go one step further and seeks the annulment of their marriage claiming that the entire thing was a fraud perpetrated for reality television sake.
Humphries claimed Kim staged the lavish multi-million dollar wedding for publicity of her "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" brand. He says she used him for fame and fortune. Even a former publicist for Kim claimed the same thing. After all, controversy sells in Hollywood, right?
Well, whichever way you cut it, in the end, when all is said and done, the only one thing that remains true in this quintessential Hollywood drama: it's hard "Keeping Up With The Kardashians."
