More than 200 snow and ice sculptures have reportedly been built for the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan, included are massive "Star Wars" themed pieces, apparently sponsored by new title owner Disney and features a large Darth Vader sculpture with Stormtroopers.
Hypebeast reports that the attraction is part of the upcoming "Star Wars" film's marketing strategy. It is tradition that Japanese army troops build the attractions, in this particular piece the Hokkaido-based 11th brigade of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force.
As many know, "Star Wars" is making its comeback to the big screen under new director J.J. Abrams, most known for his work with the "Star Trek" reboot in 2009, the sequel "Star Trek: Into Darkness" and TV show "Lost."
"Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" is setting the stage to continue the long running series, introducing new characters while also bringing back old ones.
British newcomers John Boyega (Attack The Block) & Daisy Ridley (Mr. Selfridge), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Lupita Nyong'O, Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) join Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher as they reprising their iconic roles of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa.
This is the seventh movie of the series started by creator George Lucas back in 1977, it is also the first "Star Wars" movie from Disney since the company bought the rights from Lucasfilm.
The movie has since released one trailer teaser showing new characters, familiar "Star Wars" locations and a shot of the Millenium Falcon in battle.
Although the movie is set for Dec. 18 this year, unconfirmed reports claim that Disney is considering a possible summer release. The director apparently requested this as a result of the numerous plot streams and leaked images, wanting to release the film earlier before it is spoiled any further.
"Star Wars Episode 8" is reportedly already in development, with "Looper" director Rian Johnson rumored to direct.
