Recent "Arrow" season 3 episode guides for next week talk about how Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen will deal with Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) becoming a superhero.
As seen from the latest episode, the Emerald Archer is back in Starling City after missing for a couple of months while trying to recover from injury inflicted by Ra's al Ghul. Presumed dead, he arrived in the city in a full blown chaos as citizens battle criminal Danny Brickwell (Vinnie Jones).
The most shocking moment of the "Uprising" episode though, and the one to spectate in the coming weeks, is when Oliver asked to train under the watch of his first season nemesis Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman).
This decision of his stunned his friends, most especially Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). However, Oliver insisted that he has to connive with Malcolm Merlyn to be able to beat Ra's al Ghul. He has to get the help that he needs, even if from the man he hates the most, to save his city and the people he loves.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Stephen Amell said Oliver's decision to work with Malcolm Merlyn is one of the effects of his near death experience at the hands of "Arrow" season 3's current big bad.
"He comes back having been humbled, which is an important lesson for anybody," Amell told THR.
"You constantly have to be on the lookout for people in the world that are just going to destroy you."
He also hinted that seeing the Green Arrow lose in a battle is something that has to happen in "Arrow" season 3 for further development of the character.
"This will make perfect sense when you see season four, but the Arrow persona, the vigilante, the hood - that's a flawed persona," he said.
"We saw it be flawed. We saw him lose. There has to be something more. We'll see that eventually."
"Arrow" will return next week for its 13th episode titled "Canaries." According to "Arrow" season 3 episode guide, this night will be about Oliver finding out about Laurel's shenanigans while dealing with returning Vertigo (Peter Stomare).
