Lindsay Lohan news reported that FOX Network is surprised by the case filed by the "Speed The Plow" actress and her mother, Dina Lohan. According to Lindsay Lohan news reported by USA Today, the lawsuit was filed following a controversial 2014 FOX News show that threw cocaine use allegations towards the infamous mother and daughter tandem.
The lawsuit was filed earlier this week by the former Disney star and her mother in New York. The two accused TV personalities Sean Hannity and Michelle Fields of defamation after they made on-air comments last February 4, 2014 about how Lindsay Lohan and Dina Lohan allegedly use cocaine together.
Lawsuit papers specified how Michelle Fields cited as a "matter a fact" that Dina was "doing cocaine" with the former child star.
Court documents also narrated how the said February 4 2014 episode talked about Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died from a heroin overdose two days prior to the show. Sean Hannity and Michelle Fields then discussed other celebrity deaths related to drug use, and pointed out how Lindsay Lohan could be next.
The damaging statements made towards Lindsay Lohan have compelled the movie star to file a defamation lawsuit, which FOX News said they will "defend to the fullest."
"The remark which (made) Lindsay and Dina Lohan complain was made on live television by a guest nearly a year ago," the network pointed out in an official statement.
"We removed the segment from our archives altogether last February and also apologized on-air."
"At that time, the Lohans did not make any demands for money, and we are surprised they are doing so now," the statement read.
Even though the cocaine use allegations and other derogatory statements were made over a year ago, Lindsay Lohan's camp told news reporters from Reuters that they are keen on proceeding with the lawsuit.
The case comes amid reports that the once troubled actress is hoping to make a career comeback following years of substance abuse, legal drama, and family controversies.
"Lindsay Lohan is on the way toward restoring her career and getting back on track, and something like this can be very fragile and hurtful to her," said Mark Heller, a lawyer for the Lohan family.
