Canon 5Ds Leak: New 50.6 Mega Pixel Model Without 4K Video; Separate 5D Mark IV Rumored To Arrive August

| By

Even more news on Canon's 50.6 mega pixel DSLR, the EOS 5Ds are surfacing on the web.

The new camera is reported to carry a full-frame 50.5 CMOS sensor, close to the resolution from a digital medium format camera. The sensor is said to be coupled to a DIGIC6 dual processor and will be capable to shoot in 1.3x and 1.6x crop modes.

Features include a "fine detail" picture style setting, a customizable "Quick Control Screen," high precision 61 auto-focus points and EOS iTR AF.

ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 6400, continuous shooting with a burst rate of five frames per second, a time-lapse movie setting, interval timer and bulb timer.

Naturally, the body is built around a Manesium alloy frame and will be dust & weather sealed.

Peta Pixel reports that new specs have appeared over at digi-came.info.com.

New features reported include a mini HDMI out, external microphone terminal, a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000s, a 3.2 inch 1.04 million dot LCD monitor, built in electronic level and a 100% field of view viewfinder.

Consumers are expecting that the Canon 5Ds will be capable of recording 4K video, but the feature is obviously absent in the leaked specifications. This new model is expected to be a high resolution DSLR with improvements aimed at photography; it will still be able to capture 1920x1080 video at 30 frames per second.

A comprehensive list of features appears below via Photo Rumors.

  • 50.6MP full frame CMOS sensor
  • There will be also a EOS 5DS R version that will be without low-pass filter

A version of the 5Ds sans a low-pass filter called the EOS 5D R will also be made available according to reports.

This new model is believed to be the successor to the Canon 5D MK III but is not to be mistaken as the 5D MK IV. A separate MK IV model is reported to be released by August this year.

With the MK I and MK II being discontinued, these new models are expected to continue the lineage of the 5D series from Canon.
