In November last year, NBC announced that it won't be ordering anymore episodes for "Constantine" past the initial 13 episodes ordered.
This has somehow saddened many comic book fans especially with the fact that the show based on hit comic books series Hellblazer is sticking to the material.
In their first two episodes of 2015, solid fans somehow saw a daylight as the show, which stars Matt Ryan in the title role, recorded its first ever back-to-back rise in ratings. However, in the last one aired on Jan. 30, ratings suffered again. So, the question still lingers? Is "Constantine" TV series cancelled?
There's no news yet on whether "Constantine" will get renewed or cancelled. For solid fans, your desire for it to be extended might increase after this revelation from show's co-executive producer Daniel Cerone.
In an interview with the Comic Book Resources, he teased that writers and showrunners already have a major DC comics character's storyline prepared. They already have a material for Doctor Fate who was first teased in the show's pilot episode.
"Yeah, we had a good Doctor Fate storyline that we would still use, that there is still plenty of room for," said Cerone who works with David Goye as the show's developer.
"We were utilizing the helmet -- there wasn't a Fate appearance planned in that episode. We had a big storyline built around the helmet. We've all been playing around with, "Okay, what does the helmet do and how do we use it?" Once we shot the pilot, it would have been wrong to show it and not use it. It was always our intention to play it off by the end of the season."
Before that teaser, Cerone was also asked for his plans if ever there will be a "Constantine" TV series season two. Here is his answer:
"The most honest way to answer that is, we'd like the show to go deeper into John Constantine. That's what we like to write the most," said the TV writer who is also acknowledged for his works in the first of season of "Dexter."
"I think we received some justifiable criticism in the beginning, that we were bit episodic, a bit monster-of-the-week. As we got into the season, we were able to introduce characters and be able to start character and story arcs, and moved towards living more in the world of John Constantine. That's what the show is. That's what the comic book is. That's what people signed on for. Our goal is to really explore the character."
"Constantine" TV series episode 12, second to the last, will air on February 6.
