Compact SUV's have been all the buzz in the automotive world lately. Nissan's Juke, Mini's Countryman, Ford's EcoSport and the recently released Honda HP-V make up this strong market.
Adding to that roster is a model from Jeep, the 2015 Renegade which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show earlier in January, which is now available to the consumer market.
Here's what you need to know about the compact crossover vehicle.
The new model sits 166.6 and is 71.0 inches wide, which is significantly big considering its category. The car sits at a wheelbase of 101.2, outmatching rivals like the Juke and Countryman.
The case Sport model, which carries a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine that has an output of 160 HP and 184 pound-feet of tourque will be limited to a six-speed manual.
Other features that come as a standdard on the Sport model include Hill Assist, remote keyless entry, and 16 inch alloy wheels. The Latitude modelwill feature leather-wrapped steering wheels, front fog lights, a reverse back-up camera and 5 inch display touch screen.
The Trailhawk version will feature dual-climate control, skid plates on the fuel tank and an unpgraded suspension: Chapman struts on the front and MacPherson struts at the rear.
It will house a 2.4 liter Tigershark engine, capable of producing 184 HP and 117 pound-feet of torque; the engine is coupled with a nine-speed gearbox that also appears in the Cherokee. The Limited model will feature the same 2.4 Tigershark engine, heated leather seats, a seven-inch instrument readout and will stand on 18 inch alloys.
The 2015 Renegade will feature the My Sky open-panel roof which can be retacted, removed and stowed away in the height adjustable rear cargo area.
Designers of the new model claim that the vehicle has been designed to reduce drag coefficient; a seven slot grill appears at the front paying homage to Jeep's traditional styling.
