Two movies slated to get a reboot are "Poltergeist" and another installment for "Friday The 13th." Paramount has announced their contribution to the horror genre, as they will be rebooting "The Ring," replacing the title with "Rings."
Originally a novel by Koji Suzuki, then made into a Japanese feature film by director Hideo Nakata in 1998. A sequel shortly came after, "The Spiral," which was oddly released during the same time as the first movie. Numerous installments followed, including a Hollywood adaptation starring Naomi Watts in 2002.
This latest reboot is to be developed under Paramount Pictures with Spanish director F. Javier Gutierrez. There aren't any updates yet on whether this will be a reboot or a sequel to Watt's second "Ring" film.
The film has already cast its lead role - according to a report from The Wrap, newcomer Matilda Lutz will be playing the movie's main character.
The original Japanese version's story follows Reiko Asakawa, a single parent an TV anchor who investigates a series of mysterious deaths caused by a videotape. The fabled footage is said to curse anyone who watches it, receiving a call from an unknown person announcing imminent death that arrives seven days after watching it.
Due to the popularity of the cursed videotape, Reiko investigates further and ends up watching the tape herself. Like the rumors she's been hearing, a call comes announcing her impending doom. She then tries to find a way to save herself.
As she nears the seventh day, she discovers that the curse came from a child who possesses supernatural powers. Sadako, as she discovers has been experimented on by her father, a doctor who records their sessions transferring their powers to videotape.
Eventually, Sadako is killed by her own mother by throwing her into a well. She spent seven days in the pit before she died.
The vengeful child now lives and kills through the videotape where she was immoralized, bringing death to anyone who sees her.
