While, "Hannibal" season 3 premiere date has been set to later date, the show is slowly filling out all the possible new roles as the main cast set themselves up to a bigger journey.
The NBC horror series will dive deep into the "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon" films. In fact, just last week, the series added "True Blood" star Rutina Wesley to play Reba McLane, the love interest of Francis Dolarhyde (to be played in the show by Richard Armitage).
Both Reba and Francis are main characters in 2002 film "Red Dragon" starring Anthony Hopkins and Edward Norton as Dr. Hannibal Lector and Will Graham, respectively.
"Hannibal" season 3 premiere episode will see Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) continents apart. The "Red Dragon" part will come by the eighth episode.
The show has added a good score of new characters before the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere but it can surely use another, especially for a role that was seen in all Hannibal Lector films where the NBC TV series is based from.
This character is Barney Matthews who was played by Frankie Faison who now appears in "Banshee." Matthews is a head orderly at the Baltimore State Mental Hospital for the criminally insane where Lector was imprisoned. The cannibalistic took a liking on Matthews because of his good treatment of him.
There is no reports yet whether Barney Matthews will appear in the third season but the actor who portrayed him has expressed interest in appearing in "Hannibal."
In an interview with Mstarz, Faison said he has seen some episodes and he is "absolutely" willing to join the show.
"Oh absolutely, that would be completing the cycle. That should happen at some point, it really should. This character 'Barney' has been such an intricate part of all of it and I have been the only person who has actually been involved in all four of the films," the 65-year old actor said.
Adding, "And to do the television series would be just a little foreshadowing or forewarning, but I think it would be interesting. That would be great. Because I feel quite a dependency to that series, and that something that wasn't planned, it's just something that evolved, it just came out, and I feel very blessed and very fortunate to have been a part of all those. It would be great to just say he was there as well in the TV show. I would be very happy about that."
