Over the past two seasons of "Banshee," Frankie Faison's Sugar Bates has some kind of father figure to lead character Lucas Hood (Antonny Starr) and sometimes a source of words of wisdom when things get tough for some of his friends.
Sometimes, he also serves as a comic relief, especially last episode.
"Banshee" season 3 spoiler ahead!
In the episode titled "A Fixer of Sorts," he and Job (Hoon Lee) were out in a high tech building staging a heist. They were definitely an odd couple but they got the job done.
Sugar is definitely a gem in the cast and don't expect him to go out anytime soon like other well-loved characters. In fact, he will get his own episode.
While the story is still focused on Lucas Hood and his battle against the town's crooks while making sure his cover won't be blown, expect in the upcoming episodes to see a young Sugar.
In an interview with Mstarz, Faison provided some "Banshee" season 3 spoiler, particularly a Sugar-centric episode.
"Yeah, that will come up and you will get a much deeper understanding of what that was about and how Sugar got to the place that you now see him in, and what he was like," the 65-year old actor said when asked if the show will explore his character's glory days when he was still a boxer.
"It's going to be more in the storytelling that you're going to learn a lot more specific stuff about Sugar. I think that's, to me, that was very interesting to do and to have because I think that that story is very important to know," he added.
Faison also revealed an actor has already been selected to play young Sugar Bates in "Banshee" season 3 and this guy is a "dream casting" for him.
"There's a young actor, he's an unknown, his name is Brandon Scott. You don't know him, but he's played my son in a few things and he would be a "dream casting" for me because he comes from a similar background," he said.
