'Banshee' Season 3 Episode 3 Review: Epic Fight Between Burton And Nola Has Been On The Plan Since First Season

| By

Bloods spilled in the last episode of "Banshee" called "A Fixer of Sorts."

The Cinemax action series is known for its outstanding hand-to-hand combat but last night, they take it up a notch by involving knives, axe, Rolls Royce, trucks, and car ornaments.

However, the one that stood out in "Banshee" season 3 episode 3 the most is the brutal and bloody fight between Burton (Matthew Rauch) and Nola Longshadow (Odette Annable). The battle occurred in the early moments of the episode but it was so epic you might forget what went on the whole night. From the execution to conclusion, you won't be able to take your eyes off on that fight.

Bruno and Nola are two of the most intriguing characters in "Banshee." The first one is the silent right-hand-man of Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thomsen). He does not get a lot of air time but whenever he is on, he does the most ridiculous things like slitting a throat, shooting a gun from tight space or wielding an ax to an opponent.

The other one is the female bad-ass of the Kinaho tribe, the last of the clan. She is meant to extract revenge for his brother and father. ("Banshee" Season 3 episode 3 spoiler ahead). Everyone thought he would last a little longer in the show, especially after she and Carrie (Ivana Milicevic) shared some moments in the last episode. However, she met her end at the hands of the creepy confidante of Proctor.

While it is not okay for fans to lose Nola, the stunt coordinators and director of the show reportedly said that they have been mapping out this epic Burton-Nola fight ever since the first season of "Banshee." Fans solace is the fact that the battle was smoothly executed.

"When it came down to do the Burton-Nola showdown, we wanted it to live up to what a great and unbelievable showdown it would be," said "Banshee" season 3 executive producer Greg Yaitanes in an interview with Zap2it.

"It was one of those things where you truly did not know who would live and who would die -- whoever was left standing was only left standing by the fact that they were still breathing. We imagined what this showdown would be like when we introduced Nola in Season 1 and to see it fully realized was great."

As for how the idea of having Nola's throat cut open came, Yaitanes said it was suggested by his co-EP.

"I want to say that is a crazy idea from the sick mind of Adam Targum," Yaitanes said.

"I don't know when Adam thought it up, but he's like -- 'You know, I've never seen someone get strangled from inside of their throat. What if we use the hood ornament to cut open her throat and then Burton reaches in and suffocates her from within her neck?' And we were like, 'Of course! That's sufficiently disgusting and crazy."

"Banshee" season 3 episode 5 will air on Jan. 30.
