Warning! This post is full of "Gotham" spoilers.
In the last episode of Fox TV series "Gotham," Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) did again what he does best, manipulating people in his favor with the help of superb acting.
The Penguin successfully brought down Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) by revealing she used a girl named Liza to infiltrate Falcone (John Doman). Oswald exposed Mooney's plan and in turn, he got her right where he wanted. But of course, don't expect the infamous female mob leader to lie down that long. As per Taylor, fans can expect her to retaliate. The only problem for her though is that "The Penguin" is already steps ahead.
"He's definitely enjoying it, but he's also not stupid, as we know. He's always looking 10 steps ahead. So he's not one to count her out," Taylor said in an interview with IGN. He also provided some "Gotham" TV series spoilers about how his character will take his small win.
"So he'll take a moment to enjoy it, but at the same time, he knows that Gotham City is a place where, if you're not on your game all the time, there's someone underneath you who's ready to come right up and take your place."
While, The Penguin is slowly climbing his way up the echelon, nothing is sure yet for him. There is still one man standing in his way, Jim Gordon (Ben MecKenzie). In the pilot episode, ("Gotham" TV series spoiler alert), the police officer spared his life despite the mob boss' ordering Jim to kill him or else he will be the one to die. Oswald made up for it by appearing right in time before Gordon gets arrested in the 7th episode titled "Spirit of the Goat"
Although The Penguin and Jim are on different sides of the law, Robin Taylor hints they have mutual understanding. He even said Oswald Cobblepot won't take down the strong-willed police officer.
"I don't even think he would take Jim out. I don't think he would. Well, ultimately, if it came down to him or Jim I think he would have to, but it would be a really difficult thing for him, because I do think he really likes Jim," he said on the same interview with IGN.
"He really wants to be his friend. He's the only person he trusts in Gotham City, and he's never had friends. He's never had anyone. I think the fact that Jim saved his life is such a huge moment for him, because no one besides his mother has ever cared about him that much or ever shown him any mercy at all. I think Penguin really takes that to heart. And yet, at the same time, I think he knows he needs somebody on that side, and he'll do whatever it takes to ingratiate himself to Jim and to make that relationship real, to actually have a friend."
