Real Madrid footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, has finally addressed split rumors with now ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk.
"After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end," Ronaldo said in a written statement sent exclusively to the Associated Press on Tuesday. "We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now."
Telegraph UK added that Ronaldo said he finally confirmed the split to end rumors over his private life, but the 29-year-old football superstar did not state the cause of their break up.
"I wish Irina the greatest happiness," Ronaldo said.
Irina's alleged "strained" relationship with Cristiano's mother caused the relationship to fall off followed by her absence at the Ballon d'Or also.
"Dolores thinks Irina wasn't the right woman for Ronaldo's son. She wanted someone who would, in the future, assume the role of mum for Cristiano Jr. That wasn't a priority for Irina," a source told Correio da Manha.
Cristiano was awarded the Ballon d'Or for the third time. He was able to keep the highest individual honor after scoring 61 goals last year.
Daily Mail also adds that the Russian's model representative also confirmed the split.
"We can confirm Irina Shayk has ended her relationship to Cristiano Ronaldo of five years," Irina Shayk's representative said in an official statement.
After Cristiano confirmed split with Irina Shayk, another speculation fueled over the weekend that the former Manchester United footballer has found his new flame Lucia Villalon, TV presenter for Real Madrid TV.
Lucia Villalon and Cristiano Ronaldo's possible relationship sparked when the 26-year-old tv host posted a photo with the 29-year-old footballer alongside with his third Ballon d'Or trophy. According to the UK's Daily Mirror, both Ronaldo and Villalon are silent on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
"We speak about sport and not romances on this channel," a Real Madrid TV spokesperson said, when asked about the relationsip rumors.
