"The Americans" is arguably one of the most under-appreciated TV shows today. Set in the Cold War period, this FX spy series has been named by several publications as among the best of 2014 and yet, it is not getting the attention it deserves.
"The Americans" season 3 premiere is on Jan. 28 and with all the positive reviews they are getting, FX hopes people will watch it.
At the Television Critics Awards last week, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf talked about the future of "The Americans" TV series. First thing he wants is get the attention of renowned award giving bodies once "The Americans" season 3 premiere kicks in.
"I sure would like the Emmys to step up and take notice, and I think that would be really helpful for the show," Landgraf said adding The Americans Season 3 will be better than the first two.
"We're not really a channel that's trying to be the highest-rated channel on television. We're trying as hard as we possibly can to be the best channel on television."
While, "The Americans" season 3 premiere episode is yet to arrive, Landgraf thinks it will be renewed for two more seasons.
"I think it'll be at least five [seasons]," the programming executive told reporters. "Some of that will be dependent on how good it remains."
"The Americans" season 3 premiere on Jan. 28 and protagonists Philipp and Elizabeth Jennings (Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell) will face the same dilemma as last season, only this time, they are a lot bigger and they can come in scores. One of those is their relationship with their daughter Paige.
"It feels like a huge injustice for someone not to know who they are," Russell explains of the Jennings matriarch's motivations in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly. "I feel like that's a worthwhile argument... It does come out of great love for her daughter. How do you navigate the world if you don't know who you are?"
