2014 has seen a fair share of classics rebooted for the big screen - Michael Bay's massively successful version of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," Gareth Edward's "Godzilla," "Robocop" and Broadway classic "Annie." This year we'll be getting Fox's latest version of the "Fantastic Four" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" starring Tom Hardy.
Joining the reboot party is hit kid's TV show from the 90's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" reportedly in in development under Lionsgate Pictures.
Scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz of "X Men: First Class" are in charge of writing the script with Brian Casentini, Allison Shearmur and Haim Saban of Saban Entertainment, the production that was in charge of the original TV series.
Sources say that the reboot will revisit the origins of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," a group of ordinary high school students who attain special powers and work as a team to save the world.
The film is without yet a director while Bob Orci, the movie's executive producer has been guiding the project.
The series gained its popularity with children back when it aired on Fox Kids TV back in 1993. This led to a feature film entitled "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" which was released in theaters only 2 years after the TV show debuted. The original series ran up until 1996 was given a new title "Power Rangers" with varying subtitles every season with new characters and news vehicles. In 1997 came a second movie, "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie". The show is originally an adaptation of a long running series from Japan titled "Super Sentai Series", recycling footage from Japan to cut down production costs in the U.S.
It is rumored that the Power Rangers reboot will come out on July 2016.
