'Captain America: Civil War' Plot Explained; Chris Evans Contract Nearing End, Who Will Be The Next Steve Rogers?

| By

Chris Evans will be playing "Captain America" for one last time in Civil War, as the actor's multi-picture contract with Marvel is nearing its end. Evans has signed six pictures with the studio namely, three "Captain America" films and three "Avengers" films. Naturally, this leaves fans wondering who will be carrying the shield. Sebastian Stan, the actor who played Bucky and "The Winter Soldier" is reported to have already signed a nine-picture contract while Anthony Mackie who played Falcon claims that he'd already signed up for as much as he could.

In the comic books, both Falcon and Bucky have replaced Steve Rogers as "Captain America." Mackie gives a chronological order of how the shield was passed on, as reported by Windy City Live.

"Well, you know there are many incarnations in the comic book, and we are now going into the Civil War. So, if you look at it in the comic book, Cap gives Bucky the shield, Bucky gives it back to Cap, Cap gives it to me... Then Bucky goes off and marries Black Widow, so I keep the shield, give it back to Cap, and recently Cap wanted to be old, so he gave me the shield back and now I got the shield; I'm not giving it back."

While nothing has been confirmed yet, Evans still has a long way before his possible departure. Before Civil War, Evans will next be seen in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" which comes out on May 1.

The Civil War storyline is much like the characters in Guardians of The Galaxy, wherein a group of superheroes called the New Warriors left a city destroyed after doing battle with villain Nitro. As a result, hundreds of people including children are left dead in its wake. This urged the U.S. government to propose the "Superhumans Registration Act" - a law that requires all beings with extraordinary ablities to identify themselves and surrender their powers in service to the government; Tony Stark is already publicly known as Iron Man and is in favor of the proposed act. Steve Rogers, who has lost all trust in organizations (as depicted in Winter Soldier) goes on the opposite side of the law, resulting in the division of earth's heroes.

"Captain America: Civil War" opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
