Blizzard's 'Warcraft' Movie Plot Revealed; Big Screen Adaptation In Development Under Universal And Legendary Pictures

| By

Apart from the Fox's "Assassin's Creed" movie starring Michael Fassbender which arrives in 2016 comes another big screen adaptation of a popular video game: "Warcraft." Blizzard's beloved series has been announced having its own film under development with Universal and Legendary Pictures.

Reports about the cast have already surfaced. The game is split into two battling allegiances - The Alliance and The Horde. Leading The Alliance is actor Travis Fimmel; heading The Horde is actor Toby Kebbell of Rock N' Rolla fame. Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Rob Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, Ben Schnetzer and Daniel Wu have all been reported joining the cast.

Duncan Jones, known for 2011's Source Code has been reported helming the project. Regarding tone and feel, the director has this to say about the upcoming film (taken from Slash Film):

"We start with a room full of Alliance weapons. Swords, shields and more. "I've spent more time protecting my king than my own son," a character says in voiceover. Lots of men in Armor and some banners. "Does that make me loyal or a fool?" These are the Alliance humans. We cut to a green sky. Now we see the Horde orcs. They looked like if Shrek was real, but much scarier and realistic. Lord of the Rings quality. "I've lead thousands of warriors into battle. Does that make me a leader or a coward" The trailer then cuts between scenes of men preparing for battle, the orcs preparing for battle, and the two main voices echoing their similar philosophies. The orc home is an epic mountain space. Then the question, "Is war the only answer?" And then it begins. Battles. Flying. Swords. Hammers. An alliance griffin diving down into a battle. A man jumps on the back of the orc and stabs him in the chest."

"Warcraft" is expected to release in theaters in March 2016.
