‘Heroes Reboot’ Zachary Levi: NBC Announces ‘Chuck’ Lead Star To Join New ‘Heroes’ Mini Series

| By

Zachary Levi is hopping into bed with NBC again. The "Chuck" alum has joined the second coming of the superhero drama Heroes, the upcoming miniseries "Heroes Reborn," the network announced Friday.

Details on Levi's role are currently locked in a safe under NBC chief Bob Greenblatt's desk, but according to a cagey press release, he'll play a "key yet undisclosed role."

Casting for "Heroes Reborn" has been mostly dormant as of late; until now, Jack Coleman, who's reprising his role as Noah "HRG" Bennett, was the project's only confirmed cast member.

If you're unfamiliar with the "Heroes franchise, lucky you." The original series was set in a world where a few ordinary people discovered they had "extraordinary abilities"; in other words, there were a bunch of fledgling superheroes running around.

"Heroes" was a massive hit when it debuted in 2006, but quickly fell apart creatively and devolved into one of genre television's biggest disappointments. We are still waiting to see the final fight that was supposed to go down in the Season 1 finale.

Little is known about "Heroes Reborn," except that it has a 13-episode order and will air as a miniseries. But NBC did release this teaser early last year:

Since "Chuck" ended in 2012, Levi hasn't added many credits to his acting resume. He's been running his own company promoting nerd culture, he played Fandral in the movie "Thor: The Dark World," and he appeared on Broadway in the musical "First Date."

But he also married Missy Peregrym, so it's not like he's been sitting on the couch playing Call of Duty for months.
