Fox's Assassins's Creed movie announced hitting theaters in August 7 this year is getting another release date. The big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's popular game will star Michael Fassbender and will now release December 16, 2016.
The project has remained dormant since mid last year, naturally leaving fans wondering if the big screen adaptation will push through especially with Fassbender's committments to Bryan Singer's upcoming X Men: Apocalypse.
The actor gave an update via IGN that he's still involved with the project:
Nothing has changed, yeah. I'm still a part of "Assassin's Creed," and we're working on the script as we speak. Actually, I'm going to go back and see the writers when I get back to Europe." he said.
He also expressed his exictement about Assassin's Creed, wanting the movie to do justice to the beloved video game:
"I'm really excited about it, and we're working very hard to make sure that we've got the best and most exciting, original package."
It has been reported that the actor has been made a major producer and a shareholder to the rights of the project securing his place in potential sequels.
Along with the new release date for the Assassin's Creed movie, Fox has also announced their releases up to 2018:
Kicking things off this year is Josh Trank's reboot of Fantasic Four coming in August 7. In 2016 will come three movies from the X Men series: Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds playing the title role on February 12, Gambit on October 7 starring Channing Tatum and Bryan Singer's X Men: Apocalypse on May 27,2016. Wolverine 3 comes out on March 3, 2017 followed by Fantastic Four 2 on June 2, 2017. An untitled X Men movie (rumored to be Fantastic Four Vs X Men) comes in last on July 13, 2018.
Assassin's Creed will be directed by Justin Kurzel of 2011's Snowtown.
