It comes to no surprise that Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow has been announced returning to Captain America: Civil War; the question is, which side is she on?
Played by Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow made her debut in 2010 starring in Iron Man 2, joined the cast of Avengers and then assisted Steve Rogers in Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. On May 1, she joins the rest of the Avengers once again to battle their greatest enemy yet: Ultron.
Actors Anthony Mackie (Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky/Winter Soldier) have been confirmed by Civil War scribes Joe and Anthony Russo.
While its great to see both actors returning to their roles, that much can't be said with Chris Evans whose six-picture contract with Marvel Studios is nearing its end.
Naturally, questions about who will take the Captain's mantle start to surface. Stan has already signed up for nine picture while Mackie confirms that he has signed up for as many as he could.
Mackie tells how the shield was passed on in the comic books in an interview with Windy City Live (quote taken from Screen Rant):
"Well, you know there are many incarnations in the comic book, and we are now going into the Civil War. So, if you look at it in the comic book, Cap gives Bucky the shield, Bucky gives it back to Cap, Cap gives it to me... Then Bucky goes off and marries Black Widow, so I keep the shield, give it back to Cap, and recently Cap wanted to be old, so he gave me the shield back and now I got the shield; I'm not giving it back."
Captain America: Civil War releases in theaters on May 6, 2016.
