Suicide Squad will be released after Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, a villain-centric movie; a first of its kind amidst all the superhero movies we've been seeing as of late. Directed by David Ayer, the movie announced its cast late last year, giving fans an idea what they're in for.
At the time of the announcement, the initial cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto playing the new Joker, Margot Robbie from Wolf of Wall Street fame playing Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Tom Hardy playing the Squad's leader, Rick Flagg.
But it seems Hardy won't be starring in another DC film as a villain:
Today, news that Tom Hardy is departing from the project due to scheduling conflicts with his upcoming thriller "The Revenant", co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Rumored replacing Hardy is Nightcrawler actor Jake Gyllenhaal. If rumors prove true, this will be the second time the actor and director will be working together (Gyllenhaal appeared in the Ayer directed End of Watch in 2012).
Meanwhile, Jai Courntney seems hard at work preparing for his role in the upcoming movie. David Ayer recently posted an image of Courtney, appropriately captioned "Jai prepares for battle #SuicideSquad":
The "Divergent" actor has been gaining a lot of big screen cred lately, appearing in a number of films last year (Divergent, Unbroken, I,Frankenstein) - with Terminator: Genisys and the Divergent sequel opening this year and Suicide Squad following the year after, the Australian native once again proves that he's a highly bankable actor in Hollywood.
Suicide Squad is produced by Richard Suckly and Charles Roven, with Zack Snyder,Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns as executive producers. The movie is slated for an August 5, 2016 release date.
