New Nintendo 3DS XL Release Date Confirmed! Will Hit Stores On February 13, 2015; To Be Shipped Without An AC Adapter

| By

Nintendo has finally announced at Nintendo Direct that the New 3DS XL will hit stores on February 13 in North America.

As per Digital Trends, "the New 3DS XL features a second analog control on the right side of the device (the "C stick"), two new shoulder buttons (ZL and ZR), improved 3D performance thanks to face-tracking technology, built-in near-field communication (i.e. Amiibo support), and a beefed up processor."

The New Nintendo 3DS XL will be available in Red or Black variant and priced at $200 in the US. The handheld device is also available with themed variants and pre-installed game, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D at unknown price and Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate costs $230 exclusively distributed by GameStop.

Though Nintendo fans are clamoring on the basic variant, the New Nintendo 3DS won't be available in the US.

Nintendo of America said in a statement, "Different territories make their own business decisions regarding individual products and timing."

"We think New Nintendo 3DS XL makes the most sense for our market. Nintendo makes different systems at different price points for a whole range of consumers, and New Nintendo 3DS XL simply expands those choices even further."

However, the New Nintendo 3DS XL will be shipped without an AC adapter in North America and Europe.

Nintendo explained to Polygon that their decision is a cost-cutting measure.

"Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter," a Nintendo representative told Polygon.

Nintendo's representative also adds that the New 3DS XL is compatible with the same AC adapter used by all 2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL, DSi and DSi XL devices. But buyers who do not own these previous handhelds may purchase a separate charger at Nintendo Store online that costs $9.95.
