Homeland Season 4 received good reviews despite some fans being skeptic because it no longer features Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) who was killed in the third season finale. Brody has always been the heart of the show, along with Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison, and with him gone for good, the Showtime political drama series was forced to do a major reset.
Homeland Season 4 is basically about the challenges US Embassy face in a country its nation had a long history of differences. Although the season soared high, it did not end without having to go through controversies. Before its season finale, the show was criticized by Israeli officials for saying their former PM and former Nobel Peace prize winner Menachim Begin was a killer. Pakistan then reacted that the showtime drama is wrongfully portraying their culture and country.
With all the criticisms, Showtime president David Nevins vowed Homeland Season 5 will be much better when it comes to materials and execution.
"We spent a lot of time in Washington last year," Devins said according to a report by Entertainment Weekly.
"We're going back to Washington in January. With that said, it's a work of fiction. I'm very defensive of their rights to tell difficult stories in difficult parts of the world."
On the same interview, Devins also dropped a major Homeland Season 5 spoiler, something about the new path (again!) the show will be taking.
"Where they're going to go next year is a little bit up in the air," Nevins told critics at the Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour.
"We're not necessarily going to stay now and forever [focusing on] U.S. relations in the Muslim world. It's a show ultimately about U.S. foreign policy, U.S. intelligence in the 21st century at a very difficult time. So we're exploring a few different possibilities and may change it up a little bit."
Homeland Season 5 will air before the end of the year.
