After "Glee" actress Naya Rivera's unsettling comment on Tuesday, January 13, saying that showering daily "is a while people thing," she apologized the very next day. The 28-year-old actress returned to "The View" as a guest host on Wednesday, January 14, and said, "Showering. Biggest topic in pop culture today, in my opinion. Thanks to me, unfortunately. Yesterday, we were talking about a study that says you're supposed to shower once or twice every three days. I had an opinion on it that was supposed to be a joke. Apparently it didn't go over so well."
The day before, she shared a rather controversial theory about people's hygienic tendencies which did not bode well to the viewers. With Rosie O'Donell and Nicolle Wallace seated at the round table, she said, "I have to say I have a theory about showering, [which] is that I think that white people shower a lot more than ethnics. I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a white people thing."
O'Donnell was stunned and reacted, "I would like to dispute that!" while pointing to an audience member and continued, "Look, there is an African-American woman right there in a yellow shirt that is about to have a heart attack."
Rivera was apologetic on Wednesday and said that she was kidding at the time. "It was supposed to be a joke, but I apologize if anyone was offended." She added some quotes that she received. One was from user @retiredfilth who said, "Now white people gonna think we don't shower cuz of Naya Rivera."
"The View" co-hosts were backing up Rivera. O'Donnell piped in was saying that she had read something about how "doctors say that you should take a bath" anyway. "Thank you, that's what I do," she the joked. Samantha Ponder, a guest host, also chimed in saying, "No. A bath? You sit in your own filth when you take a bath! Oh my god, you're gonna be in trouble now, too!"
