In previous "The Strain" Season 2 spoiler, director and writer Guillermo del Toro teased that his famous masked Mexican wrestler will come to the show. In an interview with IGN, the renowned filmmaker said he will shoot scenes for the famous book character exactly like a Mexican movie.
"I'm doing a little part of the first episode back too - the opening sequence. The pre-credit sequence," he said.
"And if you know the books, I'm doing the black and white Mexican wrestler movie. The movie that the guy, the masked wrestler, was a part of in his youth. The Silver Angel. I'm going to shoot that exactly as an old Mexican movie would be. And I'm going to shoot couple of set pieces if I can."
Now, the actor who will play Silver Angel has been identified. In its exclusive "The Strain" Season 2 Spoiler, HitFix confirmed that Mexican actor Joaquín Cosío will play Angel de Plata.
"FX has filled one of the key new roles for the upcoming second season of "The Strain," casting a well-respected Mexican star of stage and screen to play a heroic former luchador.," it wrote.
"HitFix can report exclusively that Joaquín Cosío will join the Season 2 cast playing Angel Guzman Hurtado."
The Silver Angel is a part of the book where "The Strain" is based from. He is a formidable celebrity in Mexico who appears as a masked wrestling star both in the sport and movies. He appears in various movies and fights vampires using the moves that he also take advantage of in his wrestling matches. Unfortunately, he was injured and reduced to washing dishes at an Indian restaurant.
"The Strain" Season 2 will pick up from where it left off in its rookie year. From New York, the team of Dr. Eph (Corey Stoll), Prof. Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley(), Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro), and Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) will travel to other cities and will meet a larger and various group of vampires. Production for The Strain Season 2 began in November last year and the show's sophomore run will debut by this year.
