While the first two of the "Taken" franchise has hit box office charts with roaring power, critics review of recently released "Taken 3" seem to fall way behind. Will Liam Neeson's Brian Mills return for another possible beating at "Taken 4"?
Reports reveal that Liam Neeson's "Taken 3" has topped box office charts, even surpassing the numbers of Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies."
According to Yahoo, "'Taken 3' swiped first place at the box office away from three-week reigning champion 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.' The 20th Century Fox thriller series starring Neeson as a vengeance-seeking retired CIA operative with 'a very particular set of skills' earned $39.1 million."
However, although "Taken 3" has raked in millions, critics reviews have been brutal. Rotten Tomatoes show that "Taken 3" has received 11% rating, averaging at 3.4/10, with consensus that said, "Hampered by toothless PG-13 action sequences, incoherent direction, and hackneyed plot, 'Taken 3' serves as a clear signal that it's well past time to retire this franchise."
In a report by The Guardian, "Taken 3" is reviewed as lacking in originality, "even leading man Liam Neeson looks bored beyond belief as he goes through the motions of hunting down evildoers, looking for all the world like an armed sleepwalker."
Since the release date of "Taken 3", there have been brutal reviews of Liam Neeson's once loved franchise as critics see redundancy in the plotlines. Of course nobody gets actually taken in the third installment, but Brian Mills' mission now becomes proving that he isn't the one responsible for his ex-wife's death.
"Taken 3" stars Laim Neeson, Forest Whitaker, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen and Sam Spruell.
Meanwhile, although "Taken 3" has taken a beating from critics worldwide, there seems to be no stopping Liam Neeson from continuing the franchise as he hints the fourth installment of "Taken."
In an interview with Fox, Liam Neeson was asked about the possibility of "Taken 4" to which he replied, "I think if audiences go and see it, and they like these characters. I mean I'd love to do something with Forest again, and if it's in a 'Taken 4' scenario... great!"
