After a decades-long talk of movie adaptation, finally "Wicked" comes to the big screen and it's already in the works!
The rise of musical movie appreciation began soon after musical TV series surfaced, and now popular Broadway shows are coming to the big screen. "Wicked" movie is finally pushing through, with the producer announcing the director and a release date target.
According to Film Divider, producer Marc Platt updated excited fans and shared developments on the upcoming "Wicked" movie adaptation. He shared thrilling news that the script is in development, with Emmy Nominee Winnie Holzman at the helm. She is known for her work in the ABC series "My So-Called Life", and has worked on "Wicked" on-stage in 2003.
Platt also shared other "Wicked" details including the director. He said, "It's Stephen Daldry. He's been on for a year of two. But it's in process. 2016 is the goal, but I don't know whether we'll make that goal or not. We will make the movie, but like I said, the bar is really high. We're going to scrutinise our work on the screenplay and our prep on the movie, and when we feel like it's ready, okay. We're not going to shoot a release date is what I'm saying. It's in the works, it's not in a rush."
He also said that while they are eyeing a 2016 release date, there's no telling if they'll actually meet the schedule. In the same report, Platt shared, "But it's not set in stone. The process of developing that movie has begun, we're working on it, and whether it makes 2016 or not, I'm not so sure."
Meanwhile, "Wicked" casting news has yet to be updated. As the last names include Lea Michele and One Direction's Harry Styles, no word on who will play lead roles Elphaba and Fiyero.
