China did do well in men's gymnastics as the team competition received gold while a strong American team failed to medal at all and placed fifth. France also pulled an upset of the United States as Yannick Agnel took home the gold in the 200-meter freestyle swimming event as Ryan Lochte didn't even place in the top three.
The 17-year-old swimming wonder Missy Franklin also won gold for the United States as she rallied to win the 100-meter backstroke.
