The 2016 Acura NSX debuted at this year's North American Internation Auto Show and was an instant crowd favorite. The previous model, a mid-mounted V6, rear-wheel drive 2-seater put Honda on the market, selling one of the most reliable supercars in the industry in its time. The new, technologically advanced model still features a twin-turbo V6 but now comes with three electric motors - one to power each of the front wheels and one coupled with the engine, turning the new NSX into a powerful hybrid.
The body is made from an aluminum frame and lightweight steel and will feature a carbon fiber floor. Vents found in the hood, front and rear fenders aid in cooling and downforce.
A 9-speed dual-clutch transmission comes with the new model along with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and ContiSportContact performance tires.
Orders for the two-seat supercar will start in summer with deliveries following late in the year, will be sold globally but is expected to arrive in the U.S. first.
Production of the new model begins in Marysville, Ohio's new Performance Manufacturing center.
Honda's president, Takanobu Ito first revealed the concept for the 2016 Acura NSX in Detroit in 2012 but was not present during the unveiling of the new model. Ito also engineered the original NSX back in 1990.
"The next generation NSX is going to deliver extreme supercar performance for the street and for the track," John Mendel, executive vice president of the automobile division for American Honda, told reporters in Detroit Tuesday. "And an all new engine made into a three-motor sport hybrid system truly delivers a new sports car experience." (quote taken from Detroit News)
