Microsoft will finally introduce its new operating system, Windows 10, to tablets and smartphones in an invite-only event in Redmond. Microsoft executive Tom Warren has already confirmed the said event will launch the new OS on PC and mobile platforms on January 21. The tech giant is also rumored to upgrade its Lumia handsets to Windows 10 mobile late next year.
Alongside with Windows 10's launch, the upcoming Microsoft Lumia 940 is speculated to make its first appearance at the event, but Microsoft officials have not confirmed these speculations yet.
Recently, Phone Arena has obtained a spec sheet of the upcoming Microsoft Lumia 940. It was revealed that it will be the first smartphone to run on Windows 10 mobile operating system.
Microsoft Lumia 940, according to the leaked details, may feature a 5.0-inch screen with a full HD (1920 x 1080) display resolution. It's also a full millimeter thinner than the Lumia 930 which was announced back in April 2014. The Lumia 940 dimensions was also included in the spec sheet and measures 137 x 71 x 8.9 mm and weighs 149g.
Under the hood, the upcoming flagship will be powered by a Snapdragon 805 chipset with a quad-core 2.7GHz processor couple with an Adreno 420 GPU. It may have three storage variants, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB supported by a 3GB of RAM without a microSD card support.
Like its predecessor the Lumia 930 it will sport a high-end camera at 24-megapixel PureView with 60 fps video recording and a 5-Megapixel front camera.
In contrast to an early launch of the Lumia 940, Kevin Turner, COO at Microsoft, said in an interview, "By late summer and early fall we'll be able to bring out this particular OS (operating system). That's the current plan of record."
If Microsoft will still follow this plan we might see a July or an August launch of the upcoming Microsoft Lumia 940 handset.
