Game of Thrones have finally announced the premiere date of the show's anticipated season five after weeks of speculation, and it looks as though it's sticking to tradition.
Fans of the hit HBO show can expect to check out season five's premiere episode on Sunday, April 12 at 9pm Eastern, the network confirmed on Thursday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. In a press release, the network also revealed that the upcoming season will have 10 episodes, just like previous seasons.
Little is known about season five, but teaser trailers lasting just a few seconds have been dripping though since October, featuring characters including Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Sansa Stark and Arya Stark, while a new GoT website has been launched named, Three Eyed Raven, promising new details on the new episodes.
It is expected that the fantasy show's fifth outing will focus heavily on Cersei, with Lena Headey who plays her seen filming the iconic Walk of Shame featured in the Songs of Ice and Fire books written by George R R Martin, and it was announced this week that actress Nell Williams has been cast to play a young Cersei, expected to feature in one of the show's first ever flashback sequence.
Viewers will also find out what happens to Arya, who was last seen boarding a ship to Braavos at the end of season four, while Tyrion Lannister had also fled King's Landing on a ship after killing his father Tyrion Lannister, for sleeping with his former mistress Shae.
Although Bran Stark will be absent from the season so the wider story can catch up with the books, fans will find out what happens after his half-brother Jon Snow joined forces with Stannis Baratheon.
