Bieber wants to make Marky Mark proud. Before the young singer had collaborated with Calvin Klein to reinvent the underwear brand's campaign, Bieber already knew that he had bigger shoes to fill.
Before all the underwear ads came out to the public, actor Mark Wahlberg had been one of the models of the underwear campaign back more than a decade ago. According to the "Baby" singer, "Mark 'Marky Mark' Wahlberg shot his campaign in 1992 and we're still talking about it today, so I hope my ads make an impact the way his have." Bieber continued to tell "Us" that he "hope(s) his reaction is a positive one."
Still, the 20-year-old knows that the people will most likely than not compare the two shoots even if they were taken a couple of decades apart. And the comments will be hard to escape as he has to step up to Wahlberg's successful photo. He said, "I really hope people will see that I put my own spin on things."
Despite the gigantic pressure the "Believe" singer faces, it didn't seem like he broke a sweat. He said that he "wasn't nervous about doing the campaign" and added that "it was the most fun I have ever had on a shoot."
On the other hand, Wahlberg's wife Rhea still thinks that her husband's original shoot is the best. On January 6, she took to Twitter her thought, "Just gonna say this.....did u ever hear the song #aintnuthinliketherealthingbaby,"and added, "My baby was the 1st and the best. And not to mention......wow the retouching."
Wahlberg's wife continued, "Mark wahlberg calvin klein ads - Google Search that's the real.....ain't gonna lie," she tweeted along with a link to the image search results for Wahlberg's original photo. But Bieber seemed to have gotten the blessing of the original underwear man as he tweeted later that day, "Just spoke to my boy @mark_wahlberg. Honored to be a part of the legacy. @CalvinKlein #mycalvins."
