When Fox TV series Gotham was just starting, one fan came up with a ridiculous but logical theory. In his post on Reddit, a user called cohencide started a thread about who Oswald Cobblepot is gonna be. Cobblepot, who Robin Lord Taylor portrays, is believed to be the Penguin, one of Batman's most well known adversary. In the comics, Cobblepot is the alter ego of the Penguin. However, for 'cohencide', there is a possibility that the Batman prequel TV series is plotting him to become the Joker.
"So we have a tall slim psychotic mass murderer who sometimes poisons people. Doesn't this sound more like The Joker to you? So why is The Joker going by Penguin's name?" the user asked.
The user went on to explain that Taylor's character is idolizing the Joker, reason why sometimes they have some similarities, similarities why it should not be surprising if Cobblepot end up becoming the Joker while the Gotham TV series progresses.
This theory by the Reddit user has reached Robin Lord Taylor and he finally spoke about it. Although he thinks it is a ridiculous idea, he said that he, too, is clueless about what will happen to his character. He also refused to give any Gotham TV series spoiler as he is also being left in the dark when it comes to the script.
"I find it incredibly unlikely, but at the same time, I have no idea what could happen," Taylor said. "I get the scripts and I'll read something, and I will be just as shocked as everyone else is when they see it happen onscreen."
Although he finds the idea unrealistic, he is impressed with the user's theory about Oswald Cobblepot and the show.
"I read it, and I was like, 'Huh,'" he explained. "I was like, 'Nah.' But then I was so impressed at the detail that this person went into... the guy who formulated this theory. I was just amazed at the amount of attention that people are paying to the show. I mean, he was looking at the colors of my vest and my suit, and extrapolating off of that."
