Enter the modern-day renaissance man Tom DeLonge: Blink 182, Angels & Airwaves and previously Boxcar Racer. The man has countless albums and a director's credit under his name with 2011's Love.
Back in December last year, Delonge and the rest of Angels & Airwaves launched their fifth studio album "The Dream Walker". In an exclusive with Digital Trends, he explains the concepts behind their latest effort, revealing that the album took two years to make and touches a little bit on his new favorite bandmate, Ilan Rubin.
"In Angels & Airwaves, we always try to make it a headphone experience. But I'm so nowhere in the same league as some of the great bands that have come before me. People like to say, "Oh, you're doing a concept record like Pink Floyd." Don't ever mention us in the same sentence! (both laugh) I mean, I'm a punk-rock kid. You know, I literally grew up in a garage, and we were always suspicious of people who could play their instruments well." he said.
The Californian als expressed his excitement working with his drummer Ilan Rubin - "I mean, the guy's the best multi-instrumentalist I've ever met in my life. Instantly, I was like, "Oh my God, he can play anything. This kid could jump on piano and play Beethoven, he could sit behind the drums and solo for 2 hours, and he's definitely better at guitar playing than I am!" Beyond that, he stays up all night reading manuals about how to create his own analog synth tones. All the synth tones you hear on the record, he created from scratch."
Meanwhile with Blink 182, he made an update that the band has already found a record label to "partner" with in releasing their seventh full-length. He reveals in an interview with NME that they are already figuring out when, where and how they will start with recording.
"We've been kind of taking our time trying to figure out the best way to put the record out,".
The upcoming album is their first release not under their long time label Interscope since their split in 2011, not counting their "Dogs Eating Dogs" EP which was released independently back in 2012.
