Director Duncan Jones Dishes On Warcraft Plot And Characters; Blizzard Entertainment's Video Game Turned Feature Film Arrives On March 11, 2016

Big screen adaptations of two very popular video game franchises are arriving in 2016. From Ubisoft, Michael Fassbender will star in Assassin's Creed under 20th Century Fox and from Blizzard Entertainment, a Warcraft movie to be directed by Duncan Jones under Legendary Pictures.

Jones recently revealed some pretty detailed news on the movie:

We start with a room full of Alliance weapons. Swords, shields and more. "I've spent more time protecting my king than my own son," a character says in voiceover. Lots of men in Armor and some banners. "Does that make me loyal or a fool?" These are the Alliance humans. We cut to a green sky. Now we see the Horde orcs. They looked like if Shrek was real, but much scarier and realistic. - reported by Slash Film

Now, the director let slip some more details on the plot. Here's a translated report via Man Made Movies UK of an exclusive with Jones on Chinese news page Mtime:

"From the moment I first talked to Blizzard, the plan was to start our film with the first time Orcs met Humans," he says. "First contact! I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about Warcraft... It was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes. A Warcraft film should not be about a good race of humans battling an evil race of orcs! Warcraft should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice."

Actor Travis Fimmel has been announced taking on the role as the leader of The Alliance while actor Toby Kebbell who's also appearing in the Fantastic Four reboot this year stars as the head of The Horde. Joining the cast are Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Clancy Brown, Rob Kazinsky, Ben Schnetzer and Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu.

The film is said to have a March 2016 release date.
