James Eagan Holmes, the man who opened fire in an Aurora, Colorado movie theater early Friday morning, has allegedly planted bombs in his apartment, causing the whole building to remain closed while officials investigate.

Residents of the three-story building, 1690 Paris St., were evacuated early Friday morning after Holmes allegedly killed 12 people and injured 58 others who were watching the premiere of "The Dark Night Rises" at the Century Aurora16 theater. Holmes informed police that he had booby trapped his apartment with explosives upon his arrest.

Residents of the complex who returned Tuesday hoping to go home, were turned away by Aurora police, according to Reuters. Officials have not yet confirmed or denied reports of bombs in Holmes apartment.

Holmes, 24, appeared in court on Monday wearing an orange jumpsuit matching his fiery red dyed hair. The victim's families were among those in the court and many say it was devastating to see him in person. At times, Holmes would nod off and appear emotionless and vacant. It is unclear if he will plead insanity when he stands trial later this year.

Another 58 people were wounded when authorities say Holmes opened fire at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora. Seven remained in critical condition Tuesday.
