"Gotham" TV series returned today and it featured for the first time the Arkham Asylum, home of the world's most dangerous and creepiest criminals. The episode, titled "Rogues Gallery," also marked the arrival of new character Dr. Leslie Thompkins played by "Homeland" star Morena Baccarin. The last episode is basically about villains that could possibly terrorize Gotham even more in the coming episodes. Still, the one that most fans are excited about is Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot.
From a small player, he's now one of the most unpredictable villains in Gotham. Robin Lord Taylor's character Cobblepot grew leaps and bounds in the show. Slowly but surely, he is taking over the criminal world of the city. Expect more from him in the upcoming "Gotham" TV series episodes as according to Taylor, Oswald Cobblepot is a project in progress.
"He's learning as he goes, and mistakes are going to be made, but at the same time, I see him achieving a lot of what he wants to accomplish and becoming a major player on the Gotham crime scene," the "Gotham" TV series breakout star said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
As for why the Penguin does those evil things, Taylor thinks it is because the environment he lives in forces him to do it. He hints that Oswald has no choice but to climb the food chain to save himself and the city.
"I see that in everything he does there is a distinct motivation, and that is grounded in self-preservation. The choices he makes are very deliberate. I sympathize with him. I don't think you can sympathize with a psychopath. I see him involved in a dark world that has forced him to make dark choices."
"Gotham" TV series returned today for its 11th episode. Aside from Robin Lord Taylor, the Fox TV series also stars Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, and David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne.
