In 2016, Steve Rogers will once again carry the shield of Captain America in "Captain America: Civil War'. Reported joining him in the third film is his fellow Avenger Tony Stark, but it seems that they won't be fighting alongside each other - Civil War will mark the beginning of the Avengers being divided - One led by Captain America and the other by Iron Man.
For those who are new to the Civil War storyline in the comic books - it all started with a lesser-known group in Marvel called the New Warriors battling the supervillain named Nitro. As a result, hundreds of civilians and school children were left dead ini the crossfire. This urged the U.S. government to propose a law, the "Superhumans Registration Act", where all beings with superpowers were required to identify themselves and surrender their superhuman abilities in service to the government. This resulted in the division of earth's heroes - The Anti-Registration Act and The Pro-Registration Act to which Stark is in favor of.
Captain America goes against the government's proposed law believing that hunting down heroes is a threat to their civil liberties, causing heroes to take sides with Stark on the opposite side.
Rumored making an appearance in the upcoming film is Bucky Barnes/ Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan); Sam Wilson who was played by actor Anthony Mackie has been reported also joining the cast. Daniel Brühl, who appeared in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds has officially joined the cast, no news yet on which character he will be taking on. Brühl has also appeared in 2013's Rush with Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth.
Prior to Captain America 3 Civil War which will release in theaters on May 6, 2016, Evans and Downey Jr. are due to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, releasing this year in April.
