Xiaomi, in an official statement, announced that it sold over 60 million smartphones in 2014 and revealed it has sold 18 million Redmi phones and 3.56 million Redmi Note phablets. The Redmi phones reportedly will contribute one-third of total sales in July.
On Sunday the rising Chinese tech firm has unveiled another budget friendly phone, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 in line of Redmi 1s's success.
According to GSM Arena, Xiaomi Redmi 2 is close to its predecessor that sports the same 4.7inches diagonal screen size and 720p IPS resolution with 312ppi , but is marginally more compact.
Under the hood is a 64-bit chipset with Snapdragon 410 chipset - quad Cortex-A53 at 1.2GHz, supported by a 1GB RAM and Adreno 306 graphics processing unit. It runs on MIUI 6 and has an onboard 8GB storage that is expandable via icroSD slot up to 32GB.
Xiaomi Redmi 1s's successor also boasts two SIM slots wherein each slots are capable of 4G LTE connectivity.
GSM Arena adds, "The exception to this is the China Telecom version, which limits SIM2 to just 2G connectivity. This vesion also has 2G and 3G CDMA."
Additional connectivity features include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS + GLONASS + Beidou positioning. There's a microUSB 2.0 port that supports QuickCharge 1.0 to quickly fill the 2,200mAh Li-Po battery.
Camera wise, there is a little upgrade on the Redmi 2. It sports an 8MP camera on its rear from OmniVision that has a 28mm wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and can shoot 1080p video; and a 2MP front snapper with the ability to record video at 720p.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 release date has been confirmed in China and will start selling units on January 9, but its release in India, Malaysia, and other Xiaomi's international market hasn't been announced yet. It will be retailed in China for an incredibly low price of CNY 700 or approximately $110 for an entry level phone.
