Fish Mooney is a character especially created for Gotham TV series. Portrayed by veteran actress Jada Pinkett Smith, Mooney is an imposing, hotheaded and notoriously sadistic gangster boss with deep connections in Gotham government. She is not afraid to go up against the city's most dangerous mobsters and can easily manipulate the law for her own good. Jada Pinkett Smith's character has been one of those that stand out despite the show having aired only ten episodes. In fact, Jada is nominated for Favorite Actress In A New TV Series at the People's Choice Awards for this role.
With Fish Mooney's success despite not having any roots in comics, it is not far-fetched that something like her will be created for the show. In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Gotham TV series developer Bruno Heller said that if ever there is a need or chance, htey will mull the option of creating another character that is of Fish Mooney's line.
"I'm sure we will create more characters along her lines, but you can't really recreate that kind of pizzazz," Heller said.
However, he insisted that that option is something they would not jump on instantly.
"On the other hand, that's not freedom we're going to play fast and loose with. It's like hearing stories about your family. It's interesting to hear stories about strange uncles you've never heard of before, but the people you really want to hear about their childhood is your mom and dad, and your brothers and sisters and people you know. That's the fun of retelling their early years."
While the first half of the season is Fish Mooney's (and Penguin's), Heller said the second half of the season will be owned Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) and Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith).
Gotham TV series returns on January 5 for the episode titled Rogues Gallery. This episode will see the arrival of new character Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) who will work together with Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie at the Arkham Asylum.
