'Anaconda' rapper Nicki Minaj opened up in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine about her painful breakup with boyfriend of 11 years, Safaree Samuels. The Grammy-winning artist revealed to the mag that she decided to show the public her personal life through her recently released album entitled "The Pinkprint" because she's proud of wearing her heart on her sleeve.
Several fans know that Minaj's latest album is the most personal album the former "American Idol" judge has released compared to her previous ones. According to an interview, her most recent album highlights details on the difficulties she faced from her breakup with Samuels with emotional tracks such as "The Crying Game" and "Bed of Lies".
"One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it's something I've kept very private," the rapper confessed to Rolling Stone. "I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone," she admitted about her split from Samuels. "I struggled with 'Do I express these feelings?' And I decided there's no reason for me to hide. I'm a vulnerable woman, and I'm proud of that."
After "The Pinkprint" was released, the "Anaconda" singer got into a heated quarrel on Twitter when she blasted tweets directing to her ex. "Even when I try to protect ppl, they still try to take advantage of me. Haven't u learned that God is in control? Stop while you're ahead," the singer tweeted after Christmas day.
"Anything you don't appreciate will be taken. God sees your ungrateful evil soul. I gave and gave and gave. Threatening me? Blackmail? Jump," she went on tweeting. "30K watch the night my cousin was killed on the street like a dog. More than rappers. But it was never enough. Don't make me. Too much love."
Samuels, a record producer, replied back at the singer's tweets, writing, "im doing interviews about my s--t and s--t im promoting.. not 1 thing said im doing interviews about nicki. yall sound ridiculous..and speaking to some1 about pub and splits isnt blackmail. stop looking for pitty.. u handle your buisness why cant i? and its not Bout fame its about respect and youve had 0 for me the pass few years.the 0 respect u had for me at home had nothing 2do w/music."
In an interview with Power 105, Minaj said that her relationship with the record producer go way back. "This is somebody I grew up with. Like, I don't even know how I'm going to function without that person in my life," she explained. "I never lived my life as a famous person without him. I don't think people realize it's not just a breakup, that was a humongous part of my life."
